A new phone sells for $250 and a used one sells for $75. How many of each are sold if the profit for the day is $625

5 used phones and 1 new one. 

These are the only combinations that would get you to exactly this price. If we buy two new phones it comes to $500 and leaves us with $125 which is not divisible by $75. If we buy 3 it comes to $750 which is over the desired amount.
